I have served as the Superintendent of District 10 since 2015. In this time, the district has expanded to include pre-kindergarten and now provides full day kindergarten. The district was one of few to stay open for in-person instruction for our students during the pandemic. There have been significant capital improvements to our schools including the addition of the Benson Playground. The district has demonstrated significant academic growth and has done so while committing to Fine Arts, Music Language, Health and Athletics.
About Me:
Prior to joining D10, I served 17 years for the Chicago Public Schools. Having served as a Chief Area Officer (CAO) for 6 years, I supervised a diverse portfolio of 30-40 schools and served on the district Senior Leadership Cabinet. The school portfolio demonstrated growth every year in multiple academic measures.
Before assuming the role of CAO, I served as principal at Talcott Fine Arts and Museum Academy. As principal at Talcott, I initiated and led the development of the Fine Arts and Museum Academy program. Talcott was the only Elementary School in CPS to display six consecutive years of student attendance and ISAT Composite growth while simultaneously setting a culture of professional development for staff. This resulted in 75% of Talcott staff achieving or working toward National Board Certifications and/or content-area endorsements.
Before Talcott, I served as the Assistant Principal, Principal Intern, and Special Education Teacher. I also worked concurrently as a curriculum writer with the Museum and Public Schools (MAPS) Initiative. Prior to teaching, I led an Early Intervention Team at United Cerebral Palsy and a Crisis Intervention Team at both McHenry County Hospital and the Bridge Youth and Family Services.
I am proud to be part of a family of educators as my oldest son is a High School Physical Education teacher and my wife is a Kindergarten teacher with CPS. My twins are studying to be a teacher and nurse. I like to run, swim, and compete in triathlons in my spare time.
