Student Services

District 10 provides a continuum of free special education and related services for children ages three to fifteen who have exceptional needs. The goal of special education and related services is to provide an appropriate education that supports a child’s diverse academic and behavioral needs. An Individualized Education Program (IEP) is developed on a yearly basis in collaboration with parents, special education staff, and general education teachers. The IEP includes annual goals specific to increasing a child’s ability. District 10 is committed to educating students with non-disabled peers to the maximum extent possible. Additionally, students with disabilities who do not qualify for an IEP, as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act may qualify for services under Section 504 of the federal Rehabilitation Act.
 
District 10 is a member of the North DuPage Special Education Cooperative, most often referred to as NDSEC. Through NDSEC, students who are found eligible can attend programs in cooperating districts. The district houses some programs as a fulfillment to member responsibilities.

Developmental Screening
 
Schools in the North DuPage Special Education Cooperative (NDSEC) will be screening children from birth to 5 years of age in the areas of vision, hearing, motor development and language skills.  Screening results will be provided to the parent/guardian after the children have been screened by trained educators.
 
Please consult the schedule on the back page for the exact date of screening in your school district and call for an appointment.
